Other Issues in Media and Society

Me and my classmates did a great job by creating several interesting blogs about different issues and if you have time, visit all of them. I would recommend you all of them but if I need to just a few of them I would choose these ones.

I chose this blog because it examines similar aspects from female side.It shows the objectification of women and media and other issues connected with women and media. womenmediaissues.blogspot.cz

Second blog shows how children are influenced and impacts on them. It also discusses who should talk about the problems caused by media influence with children. This blog provides different interesting articles and some important statistics showing how children are addicted to any type of media nowadays. http://media-and-children.blogspot.cz

My View

In this post I would like to mention my personal opinion as a 18 years old student of a major Communication and Mass Media. Through first semester of my university I have learnt lot of things about social media and both genders related to it. I see it differently now than I used to see it few months ago. I mean just look around us people are constantly on their phones nowadays. I went to my favorite restaurant last week and I was observing people around me. I saw group of boys around one table and instead of talking to each other they were all on their phones, same thing happened with group of girls. Nobody was surprised by that, I feel like people already take it as a fact of life and do not even try to change it.We should all realize that it is a problem. It is not okay that men want to reach some kind of social media perfection just for likes, for their followers but what all these likes and followers give you in a real life? Money? No, the answer is simple-nothing not even good feeling anymore. The purpose of this blog is recognize all these things and think about it even for a couple minutes. It may give you something it may give you a picture how your life looks like and what needs to improve.
I personally know that this blog helped me to realize my problem with an addiction on social media, I used to have. I was all the time under some kind of pressure and stress because I wanted to be still present on social media I did not want to miss any news there. I did not have time for something else just because social media I did not know where the limit is. This finished since I started to do sport after all my practices I did not have time and mood for checking social media and that is how my addiction ended. I recommend to all people who struggle with social media to find something you love and spend time with that!

Be present!

For Further Research

I also want to include three different articles related to my theme just in case you would be interested in it and want to know more about this global problem.
This article examines social media from different point of view. This one is from Social marketing view and shows where men and women spend most of their time. Just brief introduction to this article is that men spend most of their time on Youtube and women on Facebook.
I wanted to have at least one post from Forbes on my blog because I read Forbes almost daily. This particular article compares activities of women and men on the popular Social network Facebook. I would say that this article also clearly shows male and female traits based on their activities on social media.
This article might be helpful for people who struggle with relationships you can read there about cheating through social media. It is easy but it causes so much problems. It also shows how easy people believe everything on social media.

If you are interested do not forget to visit these sites and leave comments under this post with your opinions about them.

What the Experts Say II

I found an interesting article by Anderson M. (2016) which I want to include to a content on my blog. This article is very recent and I would say also current. It mostly talks about an election in US and how social media changed people's opinions about candidates and election. 'Overall, 20% of social media users say they’ve modified their stance on a social or political issue because of material they saw on social media, and 17% say social media has helped to change their views about a specific political candidate. Among social media users, Democrats – and liberal Democrats in particular – are a bit more likely than Republicans to say they have ever modified their views on a social or political issue, or on a particular political candidate, because of something they saw on social media (Democrats and Republicans include independents and nonpartisans who “lean” toward these parties.) '(Anderson M. , 2016) If we think about it 20% of social media influence that is a big number in a total. This article also includes some statements from people who really changed their minds based on social media. I highly recommend you to read it! I will again provide a link to the article in this posting.

What the Experts Say I

To prove my posting about an addiction on social media  I found a great blog talking about more problems connected with addiction. I would like to cite author's definition of addiction on social media 'Addiction usually refers to a situation where the user can not take him back from the particular activity causing negative effects. In the context of Social Media,Addiction refers to excessive use of social networking sites. The main root of social media addiction is Internet Addiction.' (Yadav V. , 2016) I completely agree with this statement. Different types of Internet addictions such as Web surfing and  Cybersexual addiction etc. I recommend you to visit this blog and read more about it, you will find information that you might do not know. I found interesting things on this blog which are new even for me.
I am including link to this blog in this post. Check it out if you want to know more.

Post about Social media addiction

Current Events II

Another problem which can be discussed is 'an addiction on social media'. This problem is applicable for both genders but I would like to focus on a male gender. As I mentioned earlier social media are getting more and more popular. To be honest I do not know many people who do not use any social media or anyone who can imagine a month without phone. Social media might be a very helpful source when it comes to communication between people from different places or taking an inspiration from pictures on Instagram. There is no doubt that social media have many advantages. But there should be a limit how many hours per day and where should each person spend on social media to avoid potential problems. An addiction on social media means that you are no longer able to live without checking latest news on Facebook, posting new pictures on Instagram etc. People who are addicted on social want to be still present on social media. They think that they would miss something if they are not on social media for longer time. Some of them are therefore desensitized by social media and it is hard for them to make relationships in real life. Men addiction on social media can cause unreal expectations in their lives. I would like to explain this point deeper. Because of addiction and checking a big number of posts about women appearance and behavior,  some men usually take these posts as a fact and they then expect from women to be exactly same like on postings on social media.

Current Events I

It is necessary to introduce a few issues related to the theme. First of all I would like to write about a problem that can occur in a real life. This problem is called 'a body image' some of you might already know what is this about but let me explain it. Before this post I thought that only girls struggle with this problem because that is what media shows the most but a truth is different. Just think about any post on Instagram showing man with muscles everywhere. This man would obviously get a lot of likes and comments on that photo instead of a photo with a regular man. Some men would not even pay attention to it. Because of big influence of social media there would be a big number of men who would. These men would want to be exactly like the man with muscles and a perfect body to be also popular on any social media. You may say that it is completely okay that these men want to do something for them to have their ideal social media body but I do not agree. This obsession by a perfect body can lead to serious health problems such as anorexia and different diseases and illnesses connected with food disorders and also mental health. It is important to distinguish between what is real and what is posted on social media. You will not get likes for your body in real life. It is more important who you are and what is your behavior towards others than your body appearance.

I am also including this video connected with this problem to show what are the standards of a men beauty all around to world. I highly recommend to watch this video to everyone.

Men on social media

Hello everyone! I am glad that you found a way to this blog. I hope that you will find it interesting and maybe you will learn something new about my theme. Men on social media is an issue I want to write about on my blog. From my personal view this is a theme that should be discussed. It is because  social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc. are getting more and more popular. Why did I choose men instead of women? A reason for it is simple as a woman I always wanted to see things from opposite side, so that is why I chose men as a gender. Therefore I realized that nowadays anyone who is on social media more than a standard is can be considered as a potential problem. I will write more about it in next few postings so if you are curious about this issue so far please continue reading and do not be ashamed to leave any comment here!
